Buffalo Hop is a swing dance unlike what you may think when you hear the words "swing dance". Buffalo Hop is much more! We don't just do East Coast Swing. In fact, we call it Jitterbug which has a different feel than what you may have learned in a ballroom class. Swing originated on the streets and that's where it still lives in the forms of Jitterbug, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, Blues Dance, Boogie Woogie, etc.. Lindy Hop is the core of street swing today across the world and its roots go back to its Harlem Haydays. At SwingBuffalo, we try to stay true to the original and enjoy swing dancing the way they did back in the 30s and 40s. It's energetic, down into the floor and wild - sometimes sexy, sometimes smooth & cool - but it's always awesome!

The music you will hear at Buffalo Hop will be big band like you've never heard before - hot stuff that makes you move and sticks in your head. You'll hear blues, boogie woogie, doo-wop, classic swing like Sinatra & Ella, gypsy swing like Buffalo's own Babik, and many other types of swingable, lindyable, and balable music. Check out the playlists page to get an idea of what you'll hear.

What will you see at Buffalo Hop? You'll see people of all ages and skill levels. You'll see fun and energy, laughing and excitement. You'll see people tearing it up! You'll see everyone dancing with everyone. You'll see Jam Circles, Charleston Lines, the Shim Sham, performances, guest DJ's, and maybe even a live band! You'll even learn the basics of how to make it on the dance floor by multiple different instructors who love what they do and have been to countless national workshops and classes. So don't miss the monthly dances. Get out there and dance. You'll love it!
