Balboa is a dance that developed on the West Coast the same time Lindy Hop was being developed on the east coast. It's a very close and fast dance that's very spinny. It's typically danced to fast big band music (Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Lunceford, Chick Webb, etc.). The connection dynamic is very different than any other kind of swing dance and thus is not as easy to learn. Experience in either Lindy Hop or West Coast Swing is recommended for this class.

Note, Balboa is a close dance and there will be a required partner rotation in class. Partners will be chest-to-chest. Make sure you are comfortable with that before signing up.

Classes are taught by Rob & Arlette. Rob is a lindy hop & balboa instructor & performer from Santa Fe, NM, where he performed with Moving People Dance Theatre and New Mexico Swing Fix. Rob travels to many national level workshops and has been honing his skills since 1998. Arlette is a broadly skilled & experienced lindy & balboa instructor. She performs a variety of dance styles and travels to many national level workshops.
