This class is the next step up from Basic Swing with Rob & Arlette.
Experience with Jitterbug is recommended. This class will cover
foundational lindy hop concepts and popular common moves. The class
will move at whatever pace is necessary to make sure everyone learns
the material. We will try and make sure everyone receives personal
attention. The class will rotate partners to accommodate uneven numbers
of leads and follows. No one will be allowed to stay out of rotation.
Lindy hop is more difficult than Jitterbug, but so much more versatile
and rewarding. When it clicks, you won't want to go back to Jitterbug!
Lindy Hop classes were my favorite classes when I was living in Santa
Fe. It can be rather difficult when you're first learning, but if you
stick with it, you'll love lindy hop even more than jitterbug!
Lindy hop is a dance that originated at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem
during the emerging swing era (1930's). It started out fast and wild,
but evolved quickly to cover the spectrum of swing music from very slow
(Lindy Groove) to very fast (Flying Lindy). Lindy Hop is not a ballroom
dance. It's a dance that developed on the "streets". It's danced low
and into the ground, with your butt sticking out and your weight over
your toes. It's all about fun.
Classes are taught by Rob & Arlette. Rob is a lindy hop &
balboa instructor & performer from Santa Fe, NM, where he performed
with Moving People Dance Theatre and New Mexico Swing Fix. Rob travels
to many national level workshops and has been honing his skills since
1998. Arlette is a broadly skilled & experienced lindy & balboa
instructor. She performs a variety of dance styles and travels to many
national level workshops. |
